Presidents Corner:
One of the main points of last month's meeting was the discussion regarding the length of term for our Officers. Currently, we elect new officers every year which in itself is an effort that could be put to better use. The new proposal was to change the term to two years for all Officers which, I believe, will give them a better chance to be more effective in their respective positions. Subsequent to the meeting, the Board of Directors met to review the bylaws to see if we would violate any part and what needed to be done make the change. As a result of this meeting, we will notify members at our October meeting and send an email to all advising of a “Yay” or “Nay” vote to take place in November on the proposed term extensions. Along with term vote, we will also vote on Officers and Board of Directors. Should the two year term be voted in then the elected Officers and Board of Directors will begin a two year term starting in January 2010.
The program was held in Terry Frazier’s hangar and consisted of metal fabrication as used in light aircraft. Unfortunately, we lacked enough time to demonstrate all the various processes so another meeting will be scheduled to show fabrication of more complex parts using a bend brake, metal shrinker and stretcher. October’s program is slated to demonstrate welding and cutting processes so if you’re interested in TIG welding and Plasma cutting don’t miss this opportunity.
Since the September meeting, we held two Young Eagles events and by any measure you would have to say they were a success. In Overton, we flew 60 kids and in Pahrump the number came in at 52. Thanks to all who participated in these and the other Y.E. events this year. This concludes another successful year of Young Eagle flights with a count of over 200 for the chapter.
October’s meeting will be held at the HND terminal with a presentation on different forms of welding.. If you are contemplating building a rag and tube airplane, this will show you some of the skills needed to finish your project.. The demo will take place after the business meeting in my hangar. (D-8)
Please try and attend this meeting as we will be discussing important changes to the chapter and we need your input. In addition, we will be accepting nominations for the Officers and Board of Directors that will be voted on at the November meeting. See you on the 14th at 7:30 PM.
